Planner
New York and Florida. Full time.
We are looking for a planner who can take a vertical construction project and build the schedule that runs it. You will work in Oracle Primavera P6, alongside project managers and superintendents, on schedules detailed enough to actually direct the work rather than report on it after the fact.
The interesting part of this seat is what sits around the CPM schedule. We want someone willing to learn to merge 3D models with the schedule to produce a visual sequence, to integrate pull planning with the CPM logic rather than run the two in parallel, and to use linear schedules and takt time analysis where repetitive work makes flow the thing that decides the date. At various stages you will provide the technical and analytical input behind re-planning and resequencing decisions.
What you will do
- Work with project managers and superintendents to plan and develop construction schedules
- Support proposal and preconstruction schedules
- Use historical production data to build activity durations and to validate reported progress
- Monitor and analyze detailed schedules in the range of 2,500 to 5,000 activities
- Update, analyze and report status weekly, at the project site
- Reconcile actual against planned progress and agree an action plan with the project team
- Develop visual schedules where they earn their keep
- Produce linear schedules to show production sequences
- Analyze repetitive workflows so cycle times are realistic and achievable
- Write concise monthly schedule narratives
- Provide monthly metrics and key performance indicators for executive reporting
What you need
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or an applicable discipline
- Experience preparing CPM schedules for vertical construction projects
- Proficiency with Oracle Primavera P6
- The capacity to carry several project schedules in a region at once
- Willingness to travel to regional project sites weekly. This is not a desk job
- Willingness to obtain AACE PSP certification within six months of hire
- Strong computer skills and the appetite to pick up new software rather than wait for training
- The ability to analyze and synthesize information concisely, and to recommend a strategy for resolving a project issue rather than only describe it
- Strong written and spoken communication, adjusted to whoever is in the room
- A service orientation toward clients and colleagues alike, and the interpersonal range to work with very different groups on the same project
